this is why

Every day, children and adults are forced to fight an invisible foe they can neither see, hear or sometimes even feel, but it is attacking their body from the inside out - without warning and without remorse.

They face a life of uncertainty and anxiety; living with tumours that can cause blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, cancer, learning difficulties and disfigurement.

Neurofibromatosis or NF is often described as a “ticking time bomb”. There is no way to predict when, where or how severely a tumour will impact function and so families live in constant fear of the unknown.

Countless kids and adults are waiting on treatments that don't yet exist.

With many distances to go until we have better knowledge of and treatment for Neurofibromatosis (NF), Steps Towards a Cure challenges participants to walk the walk to help tackle NF, providing funding for much-needed research.

Today there's no cure for NF tumours. Tomorrow's another story.

Make a move this May during NF awareness month and step up to help #tackleNF

With greater awareness of NF comes early diagnosis, improved interventions and better health outcomes.

step up for kids like archie

Meet four-year-old Archie, who was diagnosed with NF in January 2023. When Steps Towards a Cure launched in May 2023, his family saw an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Relocating from Queensland for specialised paediatric care meant leaving their supportive Tambo community behind.

Feeling isolated and overwhelmed after Archie's diagnosis, participating in Steps Towards a Cure provided Archie's family with a strong sense of community. It also served as an opportunity to raise awareness about NF in the broader community.

Archie's family emphasises the impact of fundraising on research, providing hope for those with NF. Last year, they raised $23,000, contributing to life-changing NF research.

Archie's older sisters, Isla and Audrey, say, "We are walking for our brother because he has NF, and we are doing it for a cure, which means we can get him the Panadol he needs to make him better."
